What We Believe
Communion at Park Place

Communion in this church is open to all people who believe in the life, way, and teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed by the Holy Scriptures. You do not need to be a member of this church or of any church to receive this great gift from God. The elements, bread and grape juice, are served by members of the diaconate.

The deacon will serve the person at the end of each pew who will in turn serve the person next to them. We partake of the bread as we receive it, symbolizing the importance of the individual in the congregational tradition. The grape juice is taken in unison symbolizing the great community of the church.

Our Open and Affirming Statement

Rev. Dr. Woolley, the first pastor of Park Place Congregational Church, clearly reflected in his 1884 sermon given at the dedication of the first church, that “The church should be so located as to meet the tides of society that for any reason are caused to flow near its doors”. Therefore, in keeping with the spirit of our founders, we declare that this church be a place where all are welcomed in the spirit of Christ himself who said, “Come unto me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”

This welcome is extended to all people who wish to know God and invites everyone to become a part of our common life and mission through active participation and leadership in the work and life of this congregation. Following the example of the One that we believe to be Sovereign and Savior, Jesus Christ, we affirm each person as a child of God, and we acknowledge that we are called to be like one reconciled body with many members, seeking with others of every race, ethnicity, creed, class, age, gender, physical or mental ability, and sexual identity to journey together to the promised realm of God. We rely upon the healing, unconditional nature of God's love and grace to be our help and guide as we move forward with the work of this church in the world.

No matter where you are in life's journey, No matter what your problem, No matter what your walk in life is, No matter what your joy is, You Are Welcome Here!
